TRACK & FIELD NORTHERN IRELAND
As I write what should have been the 2020 Track and Field season is in Lockdown as indeed is the whole community. Certainly there have been occasions in the past when athletics has been disrupted by weather, Foot and Mouth Disease and The Ulster Workers Strike but these fade into insignificance when compared with the impact on the sport not just in Northern ireland but throughout the World as a result of the deadly Covid19 Coronavirus.
For some athletes it will mean missing their first or final Ulster Schools. For others the cancellation or postponement of major events like the European Championships, the World Master, the Olympic Games etc could put paid to their career at the top level of the sport. However all of these have to be considered in a situation in which thousands are suffering and dieing at home and abroad. All we can do is follow the instructions of the Powers that be, whether or not we entirely agree with them, and hopefully keep the death toll to a minimum and eventually see a return to normality.
One of the few performances of the 2020 Indoor Season with Dean Adams in scintillating form over 60 metres ahead of Christian Robinson and Alan Kennedy.
